Hi Everyone,

I am your host Desiree!

You've seen me on Mondays with Madre or speaking to a guest about all trending chismes live on Thursdays! However, let’s chat about what you haven’t seen. It's time to become familia and get to know each other. I’ll go first. I have been using my voice in front of crowds since the age of 9, as I would stand at the podium on the alter for mass

on a monthly basis to read scripture or sing in the church choir, later on in life, I enjoyed singing Tejano, pop music and mariachi. In other words, I was born to use my voice.

As for my writing and connection skills, it began way before me, as I am the daughter of a dynamic duo, my wise Mexican madre, Hilda, a writer and a Latina community leader, and my father who was her partner in getting into good trouble. They were both my biggest supporters and one of the reasons why I have a never back down spirit.

As a native Houstonian, I was raised in Baytown, which means I am no stranger to the local raspas or taquerias. Currently, I am a sports mom to two boys and the wife of my supportive husband, Matt. We’ve known each other for 21 years, been married 15, and have enjoyed our time together being movie and sports enthusiasts.

Growing up, I always excelled in education, but when I got to college, I did not know what career path I wanted to take. I am a self-taught and well-rounded person. Those couple of years and the initiative to learn have made me the woman I am today. I know that I got this from my mother, whose advocacy with confidence and initiative to advocate for others has always been admirable.

Speaking of mothers, where are the daughters of honest Latina madres? I am no exception and proud to say that my Mom too is a straight shooter. My love for my mother has only grown stronger as I’ve learned the aspects of her own story with her mother.

Now time for “un cafecito.” On a Thursday before going live at the pink couch, you’ll find me at Segundo Coffee Lab ordering an iced or hot La Mexicana. Funny enough, similar to the start of my Thursday live, I started my career in coffee in 2004 working at Starbucks.

In 2012, I transitioned to home health services where I gained valuable experience in the healthcare industry and developed a passion for helping others.

I took a chance in 2016 as an opportunity opened at Farmers Insurance to become an agent/csr but then my life took an unexpected turn.

In 2017 My Dad passed away.

It was from 2017 to 2019, when I started to reflect on what I really wanted to do with my life and find myself. Although I left Farmers in 2017 after my Dad passed, I had the opportunity to return to Farmers Insurance in 2019, but did not come back the same person.

While the world in 2020 was changing, I was too. Little did I know that my LET’S VÁMONOS! journey would begin, and by 2021, I would be going all in! You might be asking yourself, how did Desiree get started?

Well familia, let’s talk about it!

Life can change in just a moment, in my case, 10 minutes.

The inception of Let’s Vámonos! Live was an unexpected adventure that began with my very first “unofficial” interview featuring the remarkable Latina wrestler, Melissa Cervantes, famously known as "Thunder Rosa." My guest inquired about our filming location, which left me momentarily puzzled as I had primarily been a blogger up to that point and didn’t think of filming. However, I was up for the challenge to go for it. With nothing but an iPhone and my husband as the cameraman; I had my first recorded episode. Melissa graciously granted me just 10 minutes of her time, but little did I know that those minutes would change my life forever. It was at this first interview that everything just made sense. This set the course for the incredible journey of Let’s Vamonos! Live. Why the catchphrase “LET’S VÁMONOS!”? These were words that my father would utter to us on Sundays as we got ready and didn’t want us to be late to church. By the end of this interview and others, I instinctively signed off with the catchphrase that has become my mantra: “LET’S VÁMONOS!”

Melissa gave me an opportunity and once LET’S VÁMONOS was born I knew I had to pay it forward and do the same. Provide opportunities to my community, mi gente! And thats what I’ve been doing ever since.

My journey is a testament to the belief that you don't have to have a degree to be educated. You have to have the willingness and drive to pursue your dreams and not be afraid to take charge of your destiny. It is never too late (yes, you in your 40’s thinking about starting something!) Go for it!

As always,“Thank you for the love and support, LET’S VÁMONOS!”
